Starfleet Intelligence

Starfleet Intelligence is a branch of Starfleet responsible for gathering and analyzing information concerning neighboring powers in the galaxy, and for carrying out covert investigations regarding possible threats to Earth and, later, the Federation. Starfleet Intelligence employs agents for their field operations, who are authorized to perform undercover investigations. Starfleet Intelligence agents (or “S.I. agents”) report to Division Heads, who oversee their agents’ missions. The head of the Department is known as the Chief of Intelligence.
STARFLEET INTELLIGENCE SERVICE

The Starfleet Intelligence Service is a unified organization formed to provide analysis and intelligence gathering and to insure secure communications systems for all departments and agencies of the Federation. The SIS is a separately organized agency within Starfleet Command, which is under the direction, supervision, maintenance and operation of Starfleet Command. Subdivisions include Signals Intelligence (SIGINT), Communications Intelligence (COMINT),

Electronic Intelligence (ELINT), and Subspace Intelligence (SUBINT). The SIS is organized into five Directorates, each of which contains several groups or elements. The Operations Directorate is responsible for SIGINT collection and processing. The Technology and Systems Directorate develops new technology for SIGINT collection and processing. The Information Systems Security Directorate (ISSD) is responsible for communications and information security missions. The Plans, Policy, and Programs Directorate provide staff support and general direction for the Service, while the Support Services Directorate provides logistical and administrative support activities.
